At the age of 14 both her parents died of Small Pox, she continued to live and work with the Mission community. She met and married Jim, which she called Cactus because he was tough and rugged as the cactus plant and could eat nopales (cactus) at every meal. She and Cactus left Mission Santa Clara and traveled the El Camino Real to Los Angeles, where Lilita had family among the Californios. |
